High Efficiency Photovoltaic Cells and their Applications to Green Hydrogen Production

This lecture will review research trends of III-V compound semiconductor ultra-high efficiency photovoltaic (PV) cells based on multiple junctions and quantum well/dot approaches. It will also introduce field trials of highly efficient green hydrogen production through the direct connection of electrolyzers and concentrator PV modules with the above-mentioned compound semiconductor solar cells built-in.

Zixian Jiang

Zixian Jiang is a M.S/Ph.D. student at the Advanced Semiconductors Laboratory (ASL) under the supervision of Prof. Xiaohang Li at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). He obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, China.

Chao Zhao

Research Scientist, Photonics Laboratory
Chao Zhao was a Research scientist at Professor Boon Ooi Photonics Laboratory at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). During his research at KAUST, he worked on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth of III-N material and optoelectronic devices. He received his Ph.D. in Microelectronics and Solid-state electronics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. His Ph.D. research focused on the MBE growth and characterization of InAs/GaAs and GaAs/AlGaAs nanostructures. He has authored, co-authored and delivered more than 80 journal articles, invited talks, and conference
