Peiying is very interested to in exploring AI for the field of water quality monitoring and prediction. Currently, she is collaborating with AI experts on developing a soft sensor approach to estimate microbial cell densities in various type of water matrices.

The current desalination technologies are energy-intensive compared to the thermodynamic limits, despite recent technical improvements. Furthermore, membrane technology development is hampered by low recovery and membrane (bio)fouling. My research work focuses on: i) reducing the cost and energy requirements of desalination for water supply sustainability; ii) improving the performance of the existing desalination technologies; iii) development of chemical-free membrane cleaning techniques; iv) digitalization of desalination systems for early (bio)fouling detection; and v) developing innovative energy-efficient desalination processes which could be driven by low-grade renewable energy in an integrated system.

Ahmed Rezk

Research Interests Ahmed is an experienced Mechanical Engineer in Mechanical Design, Process Engineering, Prototyping, Simulation, Manufacturing, Testing and commissioning of different industrial projects. His interest is in development of the process engineering technologies practically through building innovated electromechanical setups to be valid for efficient transition from small lab scale to the commercialized industrial field and achieving the system reliability. He is skilled in software such as AutoCAD plant 3D, SolidWorks, Catia, CAD/CAM, ANSYS, HYSYS and MATLAB. Professional
